Growing up in Seattle Washington, I was extremely active and involved in sports since age 5. By high school I had narrowed it down to soccer, basketball and track, anticipating a college scholarship for basketball. My junior and senior year, my course of action changed when I suffered back to back injuries exactly a year apart, tearing both of my left and right anterior cruciate ligaments in my knees. Undergoing two major re-constructive surgeries, physical therapy, rehabilitation, and fitness training for basically two years, I had the opportunity to observe, participate in, experience and develop an appreciation for the health industry. After spending numerous hours with personal trainers doing drills, lifting weights, enduring cardiovascular challenges, all of which pushed my body back to 100% health and ability, I was inspired to do the same for others! At this point I made the decision to pursue an education in Exercise Science and set out for the next four years undergoing intense courses at the University of Washington and Seattle Pacific University. During this time I interned as a high school basketball coach directing fitness drills, an assistant at the University of Washington Medical Center administering cardiovascular testing to diagnose various lung, pulmonary and other issues; concluding with an internship working alongside the head men's tennis coach at the University of Washington athletic department. Graduating Valedictorian of the Physical Education Department at Seattle Pacific University in 2002, I was ready to begin a career as a fitness expert! After working one year at Innovative Fitness, a personal training studio based out of Vancouver, BC, then starting and running an independent personal training business for 3 years, I embarked on an opportunity to move away from home and work as a personal trainer in Los Angeles. I have been in West LA since the spring of 2006, personal training and teaching group classes at Burn60 in Brentwood and Santa Monica.
My experience and knowledge as a trainer not only comes from my education and internships, it has been developing since I was 5 years old. Sports have played a dynamic roll teaching me not only skills to play a game, but also team effort, dedication, commitment, and the importance of working and trying hard. My injuries are not just something I endured as a teen, they taught me valuable life lessons I use almost daily to relate to and encourage my clients. I understand what it feels like to have obstacles to overcome. We have a choice to either accept defeat or to push through and prevail. Exercise is the opportunity to believe in you, feel good, become and remain healthy, and enjoy the process all the while!
